The Foundation Program Unit Director leads and oversees the design, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of programs to prepare students to succeed in University level work. The Director leads and motivates the FPU faculty his/her staff to accomplish the goals set forth by the Vice President - Academic Affairs and by GUST.
Minimum Qualification
• Strong academic preparation: MA/MS and/or TESL ( Phd. Degree is a plus) from a professionally accredited institution
• 10 years of relevant experience in a college or university-level or intensive ESL for academic purposes program
• Experience in bilingual education linguistics, applied linguistics, foreign language, English, English literature, Education, Speech, TESL
Duties / responsibilities
• Manage the program’s educational offerings, academic and the administrative issues.
• Identify and implement plans for manpower, material and supporting resources.
• Develop policies and procedures for the program.
• Develop and enhance academic programs and oversee implementation
• Prepare the department’s fiscal budget and monitor expenses against budget to ensure the cost effectiveness of department functions and activities.
• Supervise and evaluate the performance of the academic and supporting staff members and make contractual recommendations. Inform the VPAA and Director of Human Resources personnel issues in the unit.
• Coordinate with the Dean of Student Affairs and the Dean of Admission and Registration to solve student course registration and academic problems.
• Assesses the progress of FPU students at all stages of learning.
• Supervise curriculum and materials development for FPU Programs; consult with Unit Coordinators regarding curriculum, and recommend curriculum changes.
• Conduct institutional research on the activities and performance of the FPU.
• Establish departmental committees (e.g., curriculum, hiring, etc.)
• Enhance community outreach for the department.
• Adopt modern and technology based approaches whenever applicable.
• Promote a Learning and development culture within department
