Job Summary
Oversees the University athletic department including: planning; implementing
And directing all administrative activities; budgeting; hiring coaches; strategic
Planning; monitoring student sports programs; development and staffing. Is also responsible for sustaining a culture of sportsmanship, professionalism and respect at all levels.
The director also collaborates with student administrative offices and Admissions on the recruitment and retention of student athletes and with University Affairs and the media on publicity and reporting of athletic events and results.
Job Functions
•The Director of Athletics provides administrative direction and oversight for all intercollegiate, intramural and recreational athletics staff, programs, facilities and activities
•Plans, administers, and directs intercollegiate athletic activities in college or university.
•supervise the control, issuance and maintenance of recreational athletic equipment and facilities;
•Is fully responsible for training, mentoring, and evaluating coaches and athletics staff;
•Interprets and participates in formulating extramural athletic policies.
•Employs and discharges coaching staff and other department employees on own initiative or at direction of board in charge of athletics.
•Directs preparation and dissemination of publicity to promote athletic events. Plans and coordinates activities of coaching staff.
•Prepares budget and authorizes department expenditures.
•Plans and schedules sports events.
•May direct programs for students of physical education.
•Performs other related duties as required
•To collaborate with University relations in the preparation of press releases and the arrangement of media coverage for athletic events, and insure that the appropriate media is informed of the results of all athletic events;
•Collect and analyze departmental statistics and data and prepare and distribute reports as appropriate;
•To recruit student athletes in coordination with the Admissions Office and develop alumni athletics events, community relationships, and fun-raising opportunities;
•Support and assist in campus wellness and other related University activities;
•To represent the University at professional meeting and other special or public events;
