The Senior Systems Engineer Server’s role is to plan, direct, and coordinate the design, installation, and connectivity of computer and network systems to ensure the stable operation of the organization’s IT assets. This includes developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all new and existing server hardware, software and virtualization requirements.
Skills / Experience:
University degree in the field of computer science/engineering or information systems (Master’s degree preferred).
Certifications in Server/OS and Virtualization technologies.
At least 5-10 years work experience managing and configuring enterprise server and virtualization environments (Server, Storage, Application and Desktop).
Experience in managing or maintaining a large server environments, especially those in multiple data centers with active/active and active/passive configurations.
Proven experience in network design and development with working technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards.
Proven project planning and management experience.
Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
Superior written and oral communication skills.
Excellent technical support documentation skills.
Strong interpersonal and consultative skills.
Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
Able to prioritize and execute tasks effectively and efficiently with a high level of quality in a high-pressure environment.
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Ability to deliver consistently on time-based commitments in high-pressure environments.
Responsibilities:
Design and implement long-term strategic goals and short-term tactical plans to make certain server and virtualization systems capacity and plans meet existing and future requirements.
Develop and deploy methodologies for testing server and virtualization systems performance and providing server and virtualization systems performance statistics and reports.
Document the company’s existing server and virtualization systems architecture and portfolio; make recommendations for improvements and/or alternatives.
Review new and existing projects and procurement or outsourcing plans for compliance with standards and architectural plans.
Manage and ensure optimal operation of all server and virtualization systems hardware and equipment, including hardware, software, server and virtualization systems solutions and infrastructure based solutions including Zimbra, Exchange, SharePoint, JBOSS and others
Develop and execute test plans to check infrastructure and systems technical performance. Report on findings and make recommendations for improvement.
Develop, document, communicate, and enforce a policy for standardizing systems and software as necessary.
Provide guidance to junior members of the team.
This role does not have any direct reports, however it is expected that the individual will lead project/program teams.
