Required Sociologist for UNDP in Kuwait


This project will raise awareness and help initiate a change in behaviors among high school students against anti-social behavior and help reduce the impacts these incidents have on the capacity of youth to participate fully in the national development process.
Description of Responsibilities:

  • Assess the degree, number, and level of violent incidences happening within the local high schools in Kuwait 3 times during the duration of the 2 year project.
  • Conduct a desk review of relevant documents will be provided by UNDP and other relevant stakeholders. 
  • The UNDP Country Office will provide the Consultant with the necessary briefings.
Expected Output:
At the conclusion of the consultancy period, the Consultant will have produced the following outputs:
  • 3 Assessments in total on the degree, number, and level of violent incidences happening within the local high schools in Kuwait over the duration of the project.
Duration of Assignment:
The total duration of the consultancy is 3 separated months according to programmatic needs and timeline and with the approval of UNDP Kuwait. All preliminary meetings, desk review and analysis, preparation of documentation and presentation of the final report and preliminary plan for the following year and any other activities either included in the core work or incidental to the fulfillment of the consultancy are to be completed within this three months period.

Competencies
    Ability to advocate and provide policy advice.
    Awareness of the need for development and operational effectiveness.
    In depth knowledge and strong track record of using internationally oriented  programs and instruments.
    Good understanding of the rules governing program management and implementation modalities as set by the beneficiary. This attribute is a plus.
    Ability to lead the formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development programs and projects.
    Strong communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills.
    Understanding of local and international business and trade laws and agreements.
    Substantive experience working with Government partners on the implementation of complex and socially sensitive programs.
    Adequate knowledge and experience working with communities.
    
Education:
    Advance degree in sociology or other relevant fields

Experience:
    At least 10 years’ experience conducting assessments, in Programme and Project Planning and Design, Monitoring and Evaluation.
    Previous work experience with UNDP is an added advantage.

Language Requirements:
    Knowledge of Arabic and English is required.
